Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before their first class — and a few things they wish they'd asked sooner.
Before you start
What if I've never used AI before?
That's common. Some people have never tried it. Others have used it a little but never really learned how to use it well. Either way, the class starts clearly and moves step by step.
I've tried AI and found it confusing — is this different?
You're not alone — and it's not you. Many people try AI once or twice, get a vague answer back, and assume that's all it can do. In class, we walk through how to use it more effectively so it becomes clearer, more useful, and less frustrating.
What if I'm not very comfortable with computers?
You don't need to be a tech expert, but you should be comfortable with basics like using the internet, typing, and joining a video call. If that still feels a little uncertain, a one-on-one session is the best place to start — we can go at a pace that feels comfortable.
What if I feel embarrassed to ask questions?
A lot of people feel that way at first. That's one reason the classes are small: there's no spotlight and no pressure to perform. You're welcome to just listen and follow along, and most people find it gets easier once they hear others asking the same kinds of questions.
What if I'm not sure AI is a good thing?
That's a reasonable thing to wonder. AI raises real concerns — about work, about privacy, about how things are changing — and I share many of them. Learning how it actually works puts you in a better position to think clearly about all of that, and in a better position to take advantage of what it can do for you too.
What you'll learn
What kinds of things can AI help with?
More than most people expect. Common examples include writing a clear email, comparing products before buying, planning a trip, and making sense of confusing information. But it goes further than that — people use it to research medical questions before a doctor's visit, figure out whether a contractor's quote is reasonable, draft a complaint letter, organize their thinking on a big decision, or work through something they've been putting off. Part of the class is learning where AI fits naturally into your own life.
What will I be able to do after one class?
You should leave with a clearer sense of how to use AI well, a few practical examples you can repeat on your own, and more confidence using it for everyday tasks. The goal is not just to try AI once, but to start using it in ways that are genuinely useful.
Is one class enough, or will I need several?
One class is enough to get started and leave with something useful. Some people take one class, explore on their own, and that's all they need. Others book a one-on-one session once they start using AI more actively and want help with something specific — a project, a decision, a task they're working through. There's no program to complete. You come back when it's useful to you.
Can I bring a specific project or question?
Absolutely — especially in one-on-one sessions, where the whole session is shaped around you. In group classes, there's room for individual questions too. If you have something specific you want to try with AI, bring it. That's often where the best learning happens.
Is this safe and private?
We'll talk through what makes sense to share with AI, what deserves more caution, and how to adjust your settings. There's no single rule for everyone, but you'll leave with a clearer sense of what feels right for you.
Logistics
What do I need for class?
A computer or tablet with a web browser, a reliable internet connection, and about 50 minutes. Class happens live on Zoom. I'll send you a link beforehand, and you can join in your browser or the app.
Do I need a paid AI account? Which app should I use?
No — the free versions work well for getting started. I teach with ChatGPT, but Claude and Google Gemini are also good options. In class, we can talk through when a paid plan makes sense and which app is the best fit for you. You'll find download links on the Get Started page.
Group or one-on-one — how do I choose?
The group class is the best starting point for most people — it's affordable, covers the fundamentals well, and you'll learn from other people's questions too. One-on-one is a good fit if you prefer private instruction, have something specific you want to work on, or would simply rather start that way. Either one works as a first step.
Can I reschedule or cancel?
Yes. Life happens. If you need to reschedule, just let me know at least 24 hours beforehand and we'll find another time. If you need to cancel, I'm happy to refund you — same 24-hour notice.
